MPPIA Announces 2009/10 MPPIA Short Film Award in Partnership with BC Film and the Whistler Film Festival: Application Deadline Friday, September 25

Vancouver, Canada ? The Motion Picture Production Industry Association of British Columbia (MPPIA) is pleased to announce the 2009/10 MPPIA Short Film Award, a partnership initiative of MPPIA, British Columbia Film and the Whistler Film Festival. The MPPIA Short Film Award is made possible through the support of industry professionals and suppliers from across BC?s established motion picture production community.

?The 2009/10 MPPIA Short Film Award marks the third season for this exceptional filmmaking opportunity and we are very pleased with the results thus far,? says MPPIA Chair Peter Leitch. Leitch adds, ?Thanks to the Award?s many supporters, this is truly an industry wide effort to support British Columbia?s next generation of talented filmmakers.?

Founded in 2007 to recognize and celebrate the contribution of film and television to the Province of British Columbia, the MPPIA Short Film Award provides one filmmaker with the opportunity to further develop his/her directing career by realizing a unique creative vision in a short film project. Applicants will be short-listed into a field of candidates who will pitch their projects at the 2009 Whistler Film Festival.

In 2009, the successful candidate will receive a $10,000 cash award from MPPIA and a $5,000 cash award from British Columbia Film. In addition, MPPIA will solicit and coordinate donations of services ?in-kind? from its membership. In this way, the successful applicant will have the opportunity to complete their project with the guidance of experienced industry professionals and support services provided by the top supply houses in British Columbia.The completed film will have its world premiere screening at the 2010 Whistler Film Festival.
